Bellingham sneaks by Meridian

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDApril 8, 2014

Keegan Nutt netted a goal in the 65th minute and Bellingham defeated Meridian 1-0 on Tuesday, April 8, at Northwest Soccer Park.

Will Mascioli assisted on the goal and earned his coach's praise for his work rate.

"Will and Noe Betancourt-Cruz were our engines today," Bellingham coach Matt Zigulis said in a phone interview. "They really put in the work and set the example."

The game was mostly a duel between the goalkeepers, as the Red Raiders' Logan Schilder earned a shutout and the Trojans' Joe Worley made some incredible saves.

"We could have had more goals if it wasn't for Worley. For a freshman especially, I was impressed with his capabilities in goal," Zigulis said. "In the second half Logan had a few good saves, especially off of free kicks. He came off his line and made himself known."

Bellingham plays Blaine at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at Pipeline Fields. Meridian takes on Squalicum at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at Civic Stadium.
