Meridian struggles early in loss

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDApril 8, 2014

Meridian's softball team fell behind early and couldn't come back, losing to La Conner 13-3 in five innings on Tuesday, April 8, at Blaine High School.

Eve Castro pitched well in the first two innings, but Meridian's defense didn't step up, Meridian coach Jordan Chambers said in a phone interview.

"Eve did a good job. Our defense let us down today," Chambers said. "Our pitchers only walked three, they threw strikes."

Emma Weg pitched the final three innings.

Meridian scored two runs in the fifth inning, showing the team it could produce.

"Later on in the game, we just relaxed and finally started playing loose," Chambers said.

Meridian faces Nooksack Valley on Thursday, April 10, at Nooksack.
