Rosalynn Carter, Elizabeth Dole to White House

Associated PressApril 8, 2014

— Michelle Obama and Jill Biden are getting some high-profile support for their initiative to help military families.

They'll be joined at the White House on Friday by former first lady Rosalynn Carter and former Sen. Elizabeth Dole for an announcement about support for the caregivers of wounded service members and veterans.

A recent report commissioned by Dole’s foundation says there are an estimated 5.5 million military caregivers in the U.S. More than 1 million of them are providing care for veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Dole’s husband, former Sen. Bob Dole of Kansas, was gravely wounded during combat in World War II.

Carter, the wife of former President Jimmy Carter, has a longstanding commitment to family caregiving and mental health.
