Blaine softball earns tight win over Lynden Christian

The Blaine softball team took advantage of four Lynden Christian errors and won a slugfest in the end to take a 9-7 Northwest Conference victory Monday, April 7, at Lynden Christian.

Going into the seventh inning, the Borderites were leading 4-1 and capped that with five more runs, with the help of two Lyncs errors, in the top of the seventh.

Mikayla Deming had a two-run home run in the seventh to help the Borderites' cause.

Blaine's Lexi Greguski led off the game with a solo home run, and Alexis McElwain earned the win in the circle.

Lynden Christian rallied six runs in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't overcome the deficit.

Shelby Brown was 3 for 4 with a double and triple for the Lyncs and Jenah Korthuis was 2 for 3 with a triple.

LC coach Mitch Moorlag said his team played like they were on vacation for awhile.

"It was that Monday after spring break so it was almost like playing the first game of the season" Moorlag said in a phone interview. "We have two more big games this week so we just need to stay positive and work on the fundamentals. It's still early in the season."
