Ferndale's strong hitting too much for Mount Baker

Ferndale's softball team knocked in six runs in the fifth inning and defeated Mount Baker 13-3 in five innings on Monday, April 7, at Ferndale.

The Golden Eagles' Abigail Bauthues was 2 for 2 with three RBI and a double.

Lauren Maley got the win for Ferndale, improving her record to 6-1 for the season.

"Lauren started out really strong, then we struggled a bit," Ferndale coach Holly Hilton said in a phone interview. "Our whole team was kind of flat in the second and third innings. I was happy they stayed in there and were patient and put the ball in play."

Chyanne Ortloff was 2 for 2 with an RBI for the Mountaineers and was a thorn in Ferndale's side.

"She stayed in (the batter's box) for a long time, hit some foul balls," Hilton said. "She had really good at-bats."

Dana Ebe went 3 for 4 and had an RBI for the Golden Eagles. Scarlett Nyenhuis was 2 for 4 and stole two bases.

Ferndale's Kadence Kane went 1 for 3 with a double and three RBI. Drew Westford was 2 for 3 with two RBI.

Ferndale plays next at 4 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Burlington-Edison. Mount Baker will look for a win against Lynden Christian at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Bender Fields.
