Early defensive struggles cost Bellingham baseball in 4-3 loss

Bellingham's baseball team didn't do starting pitcher Aidan Quinn any favors in the first inning, and the Red Raiders suffered a 4-3 non-conference loss to Friday Harbor on Saturday, April 5, at Friday Harbor.

The loss was Bellingham's fourth straight.

The Red Raiders committed errors on both the first and second play of the game en route to yielding four first-inning runs. Bellingham battled back but could never overcome the early deficit.

"It's unfortunate, Aidan pitched a great game," Bellingham coach David Farrell said in a phone interview. "After that, he didn't give up anything."

Bellingham managed only four hits, and Farrell gave credit to Friday Harbor's work on the mound.

Red Raiders Ryan Fox, Oscar White and Nate Pearsall each had base hits. Pearsall drove in two runs, and White drove in one.

Bellingham opens Northwest Conference play next against Lynden Christian at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 7, in Lynden.
