Blazers ousted from national tournament with 8-2 defeat

The Bellingham Blazers USA Hockey Tier III Junior Hockey National Championships experience came to an end in Round Robin play Saturday, April 5, in Simsbury, Conn., as the Blazers suffered an 8-2 loss to the Springfield Pics from Springfield, Mass.

The loss was the Blazers' third straight defeat. Bellingham lost 12-0 and 6-1 in its previous two tournament games.

The Blazers trailed the Pics 3-0 heading into the third period and were outscored 5-2 in the final 20 minutes.

"I was very proud of our effort today, and I thought the boys played real well for the most part," Bellingham coach Mark Collins was quoted in a press release. "The nationals experience was good for them as a team. It gives them a sense of the quality of players outside our area."
