Big rally gives Blaine win in extra innings

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDApril 4, 2014

Blaine's softball team needed two extra innings, but a seven-run ninth led the Borderites to a 16-9 nonconference win over Royal on Friday, April 4, at Royal High School.

Alexis McElwain took the win for the Borderites, improving her record to 2-0. She helped her own cause on offense, going 4 for 6 at the plate with a double, a home run and four RBI.

"That was her first home run, and it was a huge boost for us," Blaine coach Alisa Burk said in a phone interview.

Burk also complimented her team's defense, which had some big double plays toward the end of the game.

"They helped keep the energy up for us," she said.

Baylee Foster was 4 for 5 with a walk, a triple and a double for Blaine. She also scored three runs.

Blaine takes on Cascade at noon Saturday, April 5, at Rich Rice Memorial Stadium in Dryden.
