WWU wins 2 close games at Tournament of Champions

The Western Washington University softball team got off to a 2-0 start at the Tournament of Champions, taking each game by one run, in first-day action Friday.

In the triumph over Azusa Pacific, Kaleigh Keating had a two-out, two-run single in the sixth inning and Shayna Adelstein picked up her second save of the season with a solid inning of relief work in the seventh.

Keating was 2-for-4, driving in three runs and scoring two. She also had a RBI single in WWU's two-run fifth.

A pinch-hit, two-run walk-off double by Lauren Bennett in the bottom of the eighth gave the Vikings a come-from-behind win over Cal State Stanislaus.

The Vikings' Alexie Levin had run-scoring singles in both games, extending her hitting streak to 12.

The Vikings, now 19-9, play Cal State Dominguez Hills at 8 p.m Saturday, April 5.
