LC loses in extra innings to Castle Rock

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDApril 3, 2014

Drake Likkel pitched eight strong innings but Lynden Christian's baseball team wasn't able to overcome Castle Rock, falling 3-2 in nine innings on Thursday, April 3, at LC.

Likkel struck out four and allowed eight hits as he settled into things after the first two innings.

"He struggled a little early," LC coach Desi Luna said in a phone interview. "He took command of the game. I liked how he competed every inning on the mound."

LC got its two runs in the sixth inning off a two-out double by Likkel, who went 2 for 3 on the day.

"It's been our Achilles' heel that we can't get that big hit," Luna said. "We left quite a few on base today, but we are still looking for that big hit. We did have that one though."

Jake Poag was the star of the day defensively, recording 18 put outs and no errors at third base.

LC starts Northwest Conference play on Monday, April 7, against Bellingham.

"It doesn't get any easier that's for sure," Luna said.
