Storm pitcher stars in 4-1 win

Squalicum's baseball team got a strong outing from David Stealey and topped Ferndale 4-1 on Wednesday, April 2, at Ferndale High School.

Stealey threw all seven innings, struck out four and only allowed two hits. The one run scored by Ferndale was unearned.

"It was great command," Squalicum coach John Inge said in a phone interview. "He threw strikes and he threw quality strikes. ... This is what we expect out of him."

Tim Lann was the star at the plate for the Storm. He had two two-out RBI singles in the game.

"Lann had a nice day, super-clutch hitting," Inge said. "Those are the really big runs when you can get them with two down."

Ferndale's two hits came from Kole Weidkamp.

"Ferndale's always tough to beat," Inge said. "That's the first time we've beat them since I've been here."

Squalicum opens Northwest Conference play against Lynden on Monday, April 7. Ferndale faces Burlington-Edison to start NWC play on the same day.
