THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMarch 31, 2014

Mount Baker's softball team split a doubleheader against Cashmere and Cascade on Monday, March 31, at Rich Rice Memorial Stadium in Dryden. The Mountaineers defeated Cashmere 15-4 in the first game, but fell 8-7 in a late-inning thriller to Cascade.

"It was a good day; the first game we had good hitting and pitching, but in the second game we just kind of came up short," Mount Baker assistant coach Sara Strachila said in a phone interview.

Emma Lallas was the top hitter of the day. She was 2 for 4 with a double against Cashmere and 2 for 4 with a triple that she knocked into the gap against Cascade.

"Emma was solid hitting," Strachila said. "She was hitting the holes and being a smart baserunner."

Chyanne Orloff was 2 for 4 with a double against Cashmere and Emily Brandland was 1 for 4 with a double against Cascade.

Mount Baker's next game is at 4 p.m. Monday, April 7, at Ferndale.
