Meridian baseball flawless in win over Blaine

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMarch 29, 2014

Meridian's baseball team overcame a solid complete game from Blaine pitcher Jonathan Starcer to earn a 4-2 win over the Borderites on Saturday, March 29, at Pipeline Fields. The Trojans' Dakota Jones was 2 for 3, scoring two runs and knocking in an RBI.

Starcer only struck out one in the complete game, but didn't walk any Trojans. Blaine had a chance to comeback in the bottom of the seventh, but left the two tying runs on base in the end.

"Our kids fought til the end," Blaine coach Sean Linville said in a phone interview. "Meridian was very solid and didn't make any mistakes. We only made a couple, but they ended up costing us."

The Borderites' Josh Fakkema was 2 for 3 with a run scored and a double.

Blaine looks to bounce back on Monday, March 31, at Friday Harbor. Meridian's next game is at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, at home against Brewster.
