Pioneers' Biehle nearly perfect against Baker

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMarch 28, 2014

Dalton Biehle was perfect through four innings and only gave up one hit to lead the Nooksack Valley baseball team over Mount Baker 9-0 on Friday, March 28, at Mount Baker. Biehle was also 2 for 4 hitting for the Pioneers.

"He ended up striking out nine guys," Mount Baker coach Quinn LeSage said in a phone interview. "He had us off balance. He kept the ball down, was very efficient, and threw a lot of strikes."

Curtis Handy was 3 for 3 with a walk for Nooksack Valley, and Ryan Gelwicks was 2-3 with two runs scored.

Carson Schmidt got the lone hit for the Mountaineers. Jacob Marr took the loss in his first game pitching, but LeSage said he pitched well.

"He threw enough strikes to throw well, but was a bit wild at times," LeSage said. "We made some key errors that cost us runs and then his pitch count got higher."

Mount Baker has a double header against Cascade and Cashmere on Monday, March 31, at West Valley College. Nooksack Valley plays next at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at home against Coupeville.
