Nooksack Valley blanks Blaine, 3-0

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMarch 28, 2014

Julio Garcia had two assists and Levi Van Wingerden had five saves to lead Nooksack Valley to a 3-0 win over Blaine on Friday, March 28, at Bender Fields.

"In the first half my team was really flat. There was no communication," Blaine coach Giovanni Quesada said in a phone interview. "We didn't play wide and couldn't find the net."

Luis Garcia opened scoring with an early penalty kick for the Pioneers. Luke Van Wingerden scored the second goal in the 59th minute and Jorge Perez sealed it in the 66th minute, both assisted by Julio Garcia.

"Julio was the playmaker in the second half," Nooksack Valley coach Valentin Villalobos said in a phone interview. "I switched him to the right wing and he was wide open, so he got a lot of passes and key plays into the box."

Nooksack Valley hosts University Prep at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at Nooksack Valley Elementary. Blaine's next game is at 6 p.m. Monday, March 31, at Anacortes.
