Baker's bats stay hot against Bellingham

Mount Baker's softball team continued its success at the plate, topping Bellingham 16-4 on Friday, March 28, at Bellingham High School. The productive day came after the Mountaineers scored 26 runs against Concrete in their last game.

Baker got started with 11 runs in the first three innings and added five runs to close the game out in the sixth.

"We were pretty patient," Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview. "Bellingham's pitchers did a decent job of putting the ball around the plate and we capitalized on a few mistakes here and there."

Bellingham scored four runs in the fifth inning, thanks in part to Eliza Rossman and Julia Latimer. The duo each was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.

"I was excited that we had to score in the bottom of the fifth and came up with a four-run rally with two outs," Bellingham coach Rick Ellis said in a phone interview. "I like the 'no-quit' attitude."

Aleks Toivola picked up her fourth win of the season, striking out 12 and walking zero.

Baker plays Cashmere in a doubleheader on Monday, March 31, at Rich Rice Fields. Bellingham gets more than a week off for spring break.
