Maley throws shutout in Ferndale win

Ferndale's softball team shutout Anacortes behind Lauren Maley's excellent outing in a 4-0 win in a Northwest Conference game on Thursday, March 27, at Daniels Field.

Maley struck out seven for her fourth win of the season.

"It was the first league game, so they were excited to compete well," Ferndale coach Holly Hilton said in a phone interview. "We wanted to perform better. We rembered last year's game against Anacortes that didn't turn out well."

Kadence Kane went 2 for 2 with an RBI and Drew Westford went 2 for 3 with two RBI in the win. Westford had the hit that drove in two in the sixth inning that broke the game open a little, Hilton said.

"It took almost the whole game to figure out how to hit this gal (Brooke Writer)," Hilton said. "But they stuck with it and kept trying."

Ferndale plays Squalicum on Tuesday, April 1, at home.
