Baker bats get hot in win

Mount Baker's softball team lit it up at the plate in its 26-7 win over Concrete in five innings on Thursday, March 27, at Concrete High School.

The Mountaineers had 26 hits to match their 26 runs. Heidi Chambers led the way at the plate, going 4 for 5 with four RBI, two doubles and a home run.

"We got a good first inning," Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview. "We didn't have very many hits the last time out, so it was nice to bounce back and get a chance to swing the bats. Hopefully it will carry on to the first league game against Bellingham."

Baker opens its Northwest Conference season on Friday, March 28, against the Red Raiders.

Aleks Toivola came on in the second inning and pitched 3 1/3 innings to get the win.

"She came in and gave us a chance to get our bats going," Lepper said. "We were patient and took good swings. We only walked four times all day so we did a good putting the ball in play."
