Lions softball scores 11 in third to top Trojans

Lynden's softball team couldn't be stopped in the third inning, scoring 11 runs on its way to a 17-2 win over Meridian in both teams' Northwest Conference opener on Thursday, March 27, at Lynden High School.

"Aside from that inning, it was a good 6-2 game," Lynden coach Steve Petersen said in a phone interview. "They (the Trojans) had one inning that got away from them and we took advantage of that. We were really patient and had a couple hits with runners in scoring position."

Kaylee Vis drove in three runs during the game and Mandy Warner drove in two more for the Lions.

In the other dugout it was Kendra Holmes who was the star at the plate. She went 2 for 2 and scored a run.

Hannah Rothwell was credited with her second win of the season. She is now 2-1 on the year.

Lynden faces Bellingham on Tuesday, April 8. Meridian plays Friday Harbor on Saturday, March 29, at home.
