Payton and Taylor Lunde lead Meridian



The Meridian and Ferndale girls' track teams combined to win 13 events on Thursday, March 27, at Meridian High School. The other team, Sedro-Woolley, only won five events on the day. Meridian topped Ferndale 82-51 and beat Sedro-Woolley 80-52. Ferndale lost to Sedro 71-67.

Taylor Lunde (100 meters) and Payton Lunde (200 meters) won the sprints for Meridian. The Trojans success on the track continued with Janessa Murphy's win in the 400 meters, McKenzie Rogue's victory in the 800 meters and Mimi Meggison's first-place finish in the 3,200 meters. Meridian's team also won the 4x200-meter relay.

Meridian also got wins in the field events from Murphy (long jump) and Sydney Gospodinovich (shot put and discus).

Ferndale got four event wins. It started with a win in the 4x100 relay at 54.67 seconds. Jordin Bartel won the high jump, Laura Tkacsik took the triple jump crown and Gabriella Gould topped competitors in the pole vault.
