Many Whatcom County businesses and groups are raising money or collecting items for those affected by the Oso mudslide. Of note, the involved rescue and assistance groups say monetary donations are most needed. Here are some ways you can help out:
FRIDAY, MARCH 28
Donate via salon products: All proceeds from any Salon Bellissima product purchased in the salon, 1215 Old Fairhaven Parkway, Suite D, Bellingham, on Friday and Saturday will go toward Oso relief efforts. Products also can be ordered by calling 360-715-1052 and can be held for a week for pickup. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
SATURDAY, MARCH 29
Donations collections: Boy Scout Troop 19 will be collecting nonperishable food, bottled water, toiletry items, diapers, other baby supplies, pet food, Shell gasoline gift cards and cash donations, with all of it going to the relief efforts in the Darrington area. Collections will be set up from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at both Bellingham Fred Meyer locations: 1225 W. Bakerview Road and 800 Lakeway Drive. Paintball fundraiser: Go Big Paintball, 2149 E. Badger Road near Lynden, will donate $5 from every field fee Saturday and Sunday directly to Snohomish County Search & Rescue. In addition, the business will collect donations for mudslide victims and search and rescue. Details: gobigpaintball.net or check its Facebook page.
TUESDAY, APRIL 1
Beer release fundraiser: Kulshan Brewing Company, 2238 James St., Bellingham, will unveil its Last Resort India Pale Ale during a fundraising event from 6 to 9 p.m. benefitting the Snohomish County Helicopter Rescue Team. Members of the team are expected to be on hand. The team responds to rescues in multiple counties, including Whatcom, and has assisted in the Oso mudslide, Skagit River bridge collapse and various rescues on trails, in the backcountry, at water events and more. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 2
Shop at Brenthaven: For every Brenthaven purchase in the Bellingham store, 909 Harris Ave., or online at brenthaven.com, the company will donate 20 percent directly to the Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross to help the mudslide victims.
THURSDAY, APRIL 10
Concert, silent auction: The Wild Buffalo, 208 W. Holly St., Bellingham, and What's Up! magazine are organizing a concert and auction. Admission will be by cash donation; all the money goes to the Snohomish County Helicopter Rescue Team and the disaster relief account for Oso landslide victims through the Cascade Valley Hospital Health Foundation. Grocery gift cards: Arlington native Molly Fay of Goods Nursery and Produce, 2620 Northwest Ave. in Bellingham, is working with grocery stores in Arlington and Darrington to provide $100 gift cards to affected families so they can buy what they need most. Community Food Co-op: Donations for the Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross for mudslide relief are being taken at any register at both the downtown and Cordata stores.
Fred Meyer: Coin boxes at checkstands of stores across western Washington will collect donations over the next two weeks for the Red Cross of Snohomish County.
Haggen: Local stores are collecting donations for the American Red Cross for the next month or so. On Friday, March 28, Haggen stores in Burlington, Arlington and Stanwood will donate 1 percent of their sales for the day to Red Cross relief efforts.
Lowe's: Donations for the American Red Cross for Oso mudslide assistance can be made at any Lowe's store.
Red Cross: Donate to the American Red Cross disaster relief fund by calling 1-800-HELP-NOW or by going online to redcross.org. To donate $10, text redcross to 90999.
US Bank: People can donate to the "Northwest Response" fund for the Red Cross at US Bank branches.
