Bill Newbold named Bellingham fire chief

BELLINGHAM - Mayor Kelli Linville has appointed Bill Newbold as fire chief.

Newbold has served as interim fire chief since January 2014, when Roger Christensen retired. Newbold was hired in January 2013 to fill a vacant assistant chief position. At that time he was considered as a potential successor for Christensen.

The fire chief's annual salary is $131,508.

"This has been a time of transition for the Fire Department, and I'm grateful to Bill and his entire team for their hard work and dedication to the health and safety of our community," Linville said.

Before he came to Bellingham in January 2013, Newbold worked for the Redmond Fire Department, where he served as a firefighter, lieutenant, captain, battalion chief and deputy chief of emergency medical services. He holds a master's degree in aerospace engineering.
