BELLINGHAM 1, LYNDEN 1

The Lynden and Bellingham boys' soccer teams took to the turf and came out with a 1-1 tie in a Northwest Conference match on Wednesday, March 26, at Civic Stadium.

The first goal came from Bellingham on a penalty kick. The kick came about in odd fashion with the ball bouncing off the wheel of the goal back into play, where a Red Raider was fouled.

"We didn't know it was controversial at the time," Lynden coach Drew Smiley said in a phone interview. "The Bellingham coach actually told me afterward what happened."

Lynden responded with a goal by Per Wolfisberg in the 30th minute to tie the game up.

"They responded well. I thought it was a great effort," Smiley said.

Bellingham plays Lynden Christian on Friday, March 28, at Bender Fields. Lynden plays Squalicum on Friday at Bender.
