Mariners battle to 1-1 tie with Cubs

The Sehome boys' soccer team weathered a hard-fought battle with Sedro-Woolley to earn a 1-1 tie on Wednesday, March 26, at Sedro-Woolley in a Northwest Conference matchup.

The Cubs scored first in the 20th minute, with the Mariners not answering back until the 65th minute when Gabe Weight tied the game at 1-1.

"They are a fierce team on their own field," Sehome coach John Sylvester said in a phone interview. "We made some good adjustments in the second half and carried the run of play."

The physical play of both teams was hard to miss, Sylvester said, with a Sedro-Woolley player being given two yellow cards and a subsequent red before being tossed from the game.

"Just a lot of bodies being thrown around," Sylvester said. "I thought our guys handled it well, and we dealt with it with class."

Sehome next plays Anacortes in an NWC contest on Friday, March 28, at Northwest Fields.
