WWU men ranked No.10 nationally, women 11th

Western Washington University made major jumps in both of this week's United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association/NCAA Division II Top 25 Outdoor Track Polls, the men moving up 14 spots to No.10 and the women going up seven spots to No.11.

Two Viking athletes are ranked No.1 in their events. They are of Katie Reichert in the women's javelin at 162-11 and Frank Catelli in the men's shot put at 57-2 1/4. Catelli also is second in the discus at 165-4 as is WWU's Bethany Drake in the javelin at 157-10.

The javelin marks were both automatic national qualifiers.

Cavelli's efforts were both provisional national qualifiers, his shot put mark also being a school record.

Four more provisional qualifiers for WWU are Slater Hirst in the men's javelin (194-7), Peter Maguire in the men's 400-meter hurdles (53.98), Logan Myers in the men's 110 hurdles (14.69), and Lindsay Wells in the women's hammer (165-4).
