Owner of Bellingham's Blue Sea Systems wins business person award

LUMMI RESERVATION — Several local companies and businesspeople were honored at the 28th annual Whatcom Business Person of the Year Awards dinner, held Wednesday, March 26, at the Silver Reef Hotel Casino Spa.

The business person of the year went to Scott Renne, founder and president of Blue Sea Systems in Bellingham. Blue Sea Systems manufactures electric parts for boats.

Scholten Equipment Company, a Lynden business that sells agriculture equipment, was named Small Business of the Year. Bellingham-based Red Rokk Interactive, a marketing and advertising firm that is aligned with the Big Idea Lab, was named Start-up Business of the Year.

Dan Washburn, owner of Windermere Real Estate/Whatcom County, received the Lifetime Achievement Award.

One reason Washburn was given the award is because he has built several companies to high levels of achievement, said Tony Larson in a news release. Larson is president of Whatcom Business Alliance, which sponsored the awards this year.
