Bellingham girls' golfer Jenn Paul earned medalist honors, and the Red Raiders won a Whatcom County Championship title Tuesday, March 25, at Sudden Valley Golf Course.
Bellingham posted a 254, Squalicum took second with 269, Mount Baker was third with 322, Ferndale followed with 355, Lynden had 369, Meridian scored 386 and Sehome had 413.
"Jenn birdied the first hole she played and kept it solid the rest of the round," Red Raiders coach Brad McKay said in a phone interview. "They punched the greens yesterday, so it was hard to get the pace of the greens. That made it difficult going from one hole to the next."
Paul shot a 39 through nine holes, Madi McNeely recorded a 43, Lynden's Emily Ming placed third with a 46 and both Squalicum's Christina Kim and Courtney Flannery shot a 49.
McKay praised Squalicum for its play, as the Storm only lost by 15 strokes to the perennial premier power in Class 2A girls' golf.
"Squalicum overall, they put four girls in the top 10, and they were solid as well," McKay said. "If we wouldn't had played so well ... 15 shots is close for us for a NWC team. They should get some props for that."
