Public to speak on how much citizen input Whatcom planners should hear

As Whatcom County embarks on a major update of its 20-year vision for growth, the county will not use a one-size-fits-all approach to inviting public participation.

At a public hearing of the county Planning Commission on Thursday, March 27, the public will help decide which parts of the comprehensive plan update should require more than the basic level of scrutiny. The meeting starts 6:30 p.m. at the Northwest Annex, 5280 Northwest Ave., Bellingham.

The comprehensive plan update, due in 2016, has been divided into 33 topics, each assigned one of three levels of public participation. At minimum, public input on a change to the comprehensive plan includes one public hearing, before the Planning Commission.
