SEHOME 3, LYNDEN CHRISTIAN 1

Sehome's boys' soccer team scored three unanswered goals as the Mariners topped Lynden Christian 3-1 in a Northwest Conference match Monday, March 24, at Lynden Christian High School.

The Mariners offense kicked things off right away as Jesse Haggen rung the crossbar in the fourth minute. There was some controversy on whether the shot went in or not but it was ruled that it didn't cross the line, Sehome coach John Sylvester said in a phone interview.

Charlie Lahud scored a goal eight minutes later to put Sehome on the board. In the second half, Jack Willis and Sam Willis scored goals in the 56th and 59th minutes, respectively.

"We saw some good stuff from a couple newcomers," Sylvester said in a phone interview. "Jack Willis got his first goal. We heated up well in the second half and wore them down with possession."

LC got a goal in the 75th minute by Trevor Kamena to get on the board.

"I thought they fought really hard, even though we got down one early on an unfortunate play," LC coach Brent de Ruyter said in a phone interview. "Our energy was good. We can always take lessons away from games where the effort pays off late."

Sehome faces Sedro-Woolley on Wednesday, March 26, on the road. LC plays Blaine on Wednesday at Pipeline Fields.
