Lynden boys' soccer earns win over Meridian

Lynden's boys' soccer team started Northwest Conference play with a 3-1 win over Meridian on Monday, March 24, at Meridian High School.

Nicolas Parris scored early, assisted by Devin Gartner, to take the lead. But Nick Kreizenbeck answered for Meridian. Alex Otano-Guenther scored just before the half, assisted by Parris, to give the Lions a 2-1 lead before halftime.

"We played well," Lynden coach Drew Smiley said in a phone interview. "There was a big wind going against us in the first half and we scored two, so that was good."

Gartner scored in the second half to make it 3-1.

"We controlled the second half. Going with the wind, it was much easier to play," Smiley said.

Gartner (one goal, one assist) and Parris (one goal, one assist) were the "studs of the day," Smiley added.

Lynden faces Bellingham on Wednesday, March 26, at Civic Stadium. Meridian plays Nooksack Valley on Wednesday on the road.
