Homelessness focus of Wednesday meeting of downtown Bellingham group

BELLINGHAM - Homelessness and its solutions, as well as safety downtown, will be the focus of the next meeting of the Downtown Bellingham Partnership on Wednesday, March 26.

The public event begins at 6 p.m. at The Leopold Retirement Residence, 1224 Cornwall Ave.

Presenters will include city of Bellingham staff and social service providers. Topics will include:

-- A presentation of the Mayor's Community Solutions Workgroup, which studied six challenges to downtown, including homelessness.

-- An overview of homeless outreach and housing services in the city, including downtown, followed by a Q&A.

-- An introduction of the first of a new video series called "Homeless in Bellingham."
