Squalicum's boys' soccer team piled on 49 shots against Ferndale and topped the Golden Eagles 4-0 on Saturday, March 22, at Northwest Soccer Park in Ferndale. Arne Peterson scored a goal and had an assist for the Storm.

"It was a preseason game, so we're still working out the kinks," Ferndale coach Scott Browne said in a phone interview. "I'm happy with our performance, we accomplished the goals we wanted to."

Peterson's assist came when his free kick was deflected off of Ferndale goalkeeper Ful Schonborn and the Storm's Quinn Carpenter put the rebound in the net. Peterson scored his goal just four minutes later on another free kick from 25 yards out, which he bent around the Golden Eagles' wall of players.

"Our shots came from a lot of different places and a lot of different players," Squalicum coach Joe McAuliffe said in a phone interview. "We need to have a better ratio of finishing, but I like that everyone feels capable of taking the shot."

Christian Chala and Gabe Bacco-Guidroz also scored for Squalicum. Bacco-Guidroz was assisted by North Bennett, while Chala's was unassisted. Ferndale's Schonborn had 20 saves.

Ferndale hosts Anacortes at 4 p.m. Monday, March 24, at Northwest Soccer Park. Squalicum plays next at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, at Burlington-Edison.
