NOOKSACK VALLEY 10, FRIDAY HARBOR 5

Nooksack Valley's baseball team had a 10-run third inning and defeated Friday Harbor 10-5 on Saturday, March 22, at Nooksack Valley. The second game of the scheduled double-header between the two teams was cancelled.

Curtis Handy was 2 for 4 with a three-run double for the Pioneers. Ryan Gelwicks was 1 for 3 with an RBI.

"They walked a couple of guys and loaded the bases for Handy (before his three-run double in the third)," Nooksack Valley coach Scott Gelwicks said in a phone interview. "We went through 15 batters in that inning and Handy had both his hits."

Noah Rawls got the win with five innings pitched, six strikeouts and no earned runs. Dalton Biehle pitched the final two innings and also had no earned runs.

"I was very proud of both pitchers," Gelwicks said. "We didn't play the best defense, but they did their job and kept coming at them."

Nooksack Valley takes on Lynden Christian at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, at home.
