Sehome's softball team took two defeats in its third and fourth games in the past three days on Saturday, March 22, at Daniels Field in Anacortes.

The Mariners let up two runs in the bottom of the seventh to lose a 9-8 heartbreaker to Anacortes in the first game.

"We just didn't slam the door at the end," Sehome coach Jim Emerson said in a phone interview.

The Mariners had a 8-7 lead going into the bottom half of the inning largely due to a five-run second inning.

"The bottom half of the order came in and we got around to the top," Emerson said. "Then they came through with some clutch hits."

Sehome's second game started off well against Lynden, pulling out to a 6-3 lead through three innings. The Mariners would eventually fall 13-6 to Lynden.

A seven-run fourth inning from the Lions doomed the Mariners.

"Mallory (Kruzich) got a bit tired," Emerson said. "It's her fourth game in three days and that's why we brought (Cat Fitzpatrick) in."

Gabby Gorosave, Morgan Henry and Sam Hruby all performed well at the plate on the day. Gorsave went 4 for 8 with seven RBI; Henry went 5 for 8 with two RBI and Hruby went 5 for 7 with two RBI.

"Gabby and Morgan are experienced players. We've grown to expect that from them," Emerson said. "Sam is a freshman and starting to figure out what pitching is like at this level. She's going to be a good player."
