SEHOME

MARINERS

Co-Coaches: Kevin Ryan and Tim Carlson

Last year: Won the Northwest Conference Championships with 151 points. ... Won a District 1/2 Meet title with 133 points. ... Won a Class 2A State Championship with 66 points.

Returning state participants: Daniel Ziegler (sr. 100), Nick Saupe (jr. 300 hurdles), Blaise Black (sr. pole vault), Sam Humphreys (sr. pole vault)

Others to watch: Drew Norvell (jr. throws), Tyler Haggen (jr. throws), David Roy (jr. jumps), Kirby Overman (jr. distance), Trevor Northrop (sr. mid-distance), Taylor Rapp (so. sprints), Zane Markosian (jr. distance)

Outlook: Sehome is looking to replicate the way its season went last year. The Mariners started out with potential, improved each week and put everything together during the final weekend to capture a Class 2A state championship. "Last year it worked out real well," Sehome coach Kevin Ryan said in a phone interview. "We are gaining experience and are learning along the way." Sehome returns four state participants but has a nice balance of athletes spread out amongst its team. Daniel Ziegler and Taylor Rapp should be strong in sprints, senior Trevor Northrop has been impressive so far in mid-distance and distance runners Kirby Overman and Zane Markosian are both talented. Ryan said junior throwers Drew Norvell and Tyler Haggen have worked extremely hard, and the fruits of their labor could pay off this postseason. Junior David Roy is a promising jumper, and Nick Saupe returns in hurdles. Sehome also returns a pair of top-level pole vault talents.
