Nooksack Valley track and field preview capsule

Coach: Robb Myhre

Last year: Finished 13th at Northwest Conference Championships with three points. ... Finished 19th at Class 1A Tri-District Meet with three points. ... Didn't score at Class 1A State Championships.

Returning state participants: None

Others to watch: Connor Beard (so. sprints), Aaron Bosscher (so. jumps/mid-distance), Leni Halaapiapi (sr. throws), Noel Mondragon (fr. sprints), Blake Warner (sr. throws), Jared Parson (so. throws/pole vault)

Outlook: The Pioneers don't return any state-meet participants, but this time next year that shouldn't be the case. Nooksack Valley doesn't have a deep squad by any means, but it does have a handful of talented athletes in Aaron Bosscher, Connor Bear and Leni Halaapiapi to name a few. "It's a small team," Nooksack Valley coach Robb Myhre said. "It's a young team, but we have some kids with potential and some new, young kids that we're excited about." Bosscher is a basketball player and also has a cross country background. He currently owns the top high jump in the Northwest Conference and should also be a legitimate contender in both the 800 and 1,600. He's also slated to factor into the Pioneers' 4x400 relay team. Beard is yet to compete due to injury, but Myhre said he expects him to be a strong contributor in sprints once he returns. Halaapiapi is above average in the shot put and should only improve as the season goes along. Senior Blake Warner is another athlete who adds to Nooksack Valley's throwing crew.
