MOUNT BAKER

MOUNTAINEERS

Coach: Tyler Mitchell

Last year: Finished 11th at Northwest Conference Championships with 15 points. ... Finished eighth at Class 1A Tri-District Meet with 31 points. ... Finished tied for ninth at Class 1A State Championships with 21 points.

Returning state participants: None

Others to watch: Shelby Miles (sr. distance), Travis Lindsey (sr. hurdles/jumps), Jesse Phan (jr. mid-distance, jumps), Ishmael Villaluz (sr. mid-distance)

Outlook: Mount Baker doesn't bring back much in the way of returners with an exception of senior distance runner Shelby Miles, who had a strong fall in cross country, but coach Tyler Mitchell is excited about some of the new talent infused into the team. Familiar names such as Travis Lindsey and Izaiha Schwinden have joined the group and give the Mountaineers a pair of promising hurdlers. "We are young elsewhere, but the 300 hurdles were hoping to do some exciting things and the 800 meters, (as well)," Mitchell said. Junior Jesse Phan and senior Ishmael Villaluz are those two 800-meter runners Mitchell alluded two, and the duo rank among the top 10 in the Northwest Conference in the event. Mount Baker doesn't have much in field events. JT Keeney could contribute, and both Lindsey and Phan are expected to compete in jumps.
