Pioneers' bats get going in 19-0 win

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMarch 22, 2014

Nooksack Valley's softball team had a fantastic day at the plate in the Pioneers' 19-0 win over Friday Harbor on Saturday, March 22, at Nooksack Valley Middle School.

"We were able to get some good swing in today," Nooksack coach Tom Harmon said in a phone interview. "We put the ball in play and hit it hard and took advantage of it."

Chloe Gardner and Kayla Struiksma led Nooksack at the plate. Gardner went 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBI, while Struiksma went 2 for 2 with a double and three RBI.

"It was another good opportunity to play," Harmon said. "Early in the year, you want to get some games in and see some live pitching. Today was an opportunity to get some game-type swings."

Struiksma also picked up the win - her first of the year. She pitched two innings, and then Alexis Pike pitched the last two.

"They had pretty good control," Harmon said. "It wasn't an ideal day because of the cold but they were able to work on some things. The things they were working on they accomplished. It was good reps."

Nooksack faces Mount Baker on Tuesday, March 25, at home.
