Outlook: Lynden Christian's fifth-place finish at state last year was a combination of the entire girls' squad peaking at the right time, Lynden Christian coach Kent DeHoog said. With eight state competitors returning, DeHoog wouldn't go as far as to say the Lyncs will contend for a state championship, but he does believe LC has a strong chance to leave the Class 1A State Championships with a trophy. "There is some good diversity there," said DeHoog of his girls' team. "I think we have good balance. We have some good throwers, some good senior leadership, lots of sprinters and our 4x4 girls are coming back." Morgan Van Kooten, Hannah Wynstra and Daphnee Manderson headline a strong throwing crew, Madison Burke, Madison Weg, Emily Sytsma and Brandy and Brianna Bruneau are all strong track athletes. Weg is strong in jumps, too. Sophomore Sarah Bell gives LC another skilled distance runner.
