Rossman strikes out seven in Bellingham win

Bellingham's softball team picked up an early non-conference win, defeating Meridian 8-4 on Friday, March 21, at Bellingham.

"It's an exciting day for Bellingham," coach Rick Ellis said in a phone interview. "It's nice to get a win early rather than waiting for the end. We had a good week of practice and it showed."

Freshman pitcher Eliza Rossman got the win on the mound. She struck out seven while only allowing one walk. She strung together 12 straight outs after starting the game by allowing a double.

"Eliza pitched an outstanding game," Ellis said. "Her control was awesome. The defense played outstanding. We did what we had to do to win a ball game."

The Red Raiders only had two hits in the game - one by Jasmine Midgley and one by Jasmin Lopez - but showed great plate discipline, drawing 12 walks.

"Their pitcher was a little bit wild, but the kids showed great patience," Ellis said. "We didn't swing wild."

Meridian's star at the plate was Keana Waugh, who went 3 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI.

"She did all the damage," Ellis said.

Bellingham now has two games against La Conner on Saturday, March 22, on the road. Meridian faces Lynden on Thursday, March 27, on the road.
