Blaine, LC battle to tie

Blaine's boys soccer team battled to a 0-0 tie with Lynden Christian on Friday, March 21, at Bender Fields.

"The game was true to the score," LC coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. "It was a battle. Both teams played with a lot of intensity."

Even though the ball couldn't find the net for either team, both schools had their opportunities. Blaine hit the crossbar twice and LC rung it once.

"It's not like we didn't have our chances," De Ruyter said. "We just have to focus on our fundamentals, not only creating opportunities but taking the time and striking the ball with authority to spots. It's little things we can fix in training. We have a lot of new guys; they're only going to get better."

For Blaine, it was fatigue that got to them, Borderites coach Giovanni Quesada said in a phone interview.

"Three games in five days was very hard," he said. "I saw some tired legs."

The defense was the key to both teams, as the score suggests.

"The defense was really solid," Quesada said. "They had great communication and moved the ball around."

Blaine faces Burlington-Edison on Monday, March 24, on the road. LC also plays on Monday, against Sehome at Bender Fields.

Shots on goal: Blaine 2; LC 3. Goalies (saves) Blaine: Tristan Hunter (2); LC: Zach Oswald (1).
