Squalicum girls' golf capsule

SQUALICUM

STORM

Coach: Chad Herman

Last year: Squalicum finished second in the Northwest Conference standings last year to Bellingham. ... The Storm sent three golfers to the Class 2A state golf tournament.

Players to watch: Etaane Neumann (Sr.); Maddi Atwood-Knudson (Jr.); Courtney Flannery (NA); Christina Kim (NA).

Outlook: Despite losing one of the Northwest Conference's top golfers in Riley Andert, the Storm return a lineup that is still quite talented and deep. Maddi Atwood-Knudson and Courtney Flannery return after making it to the Class 2A state girls' golf tournament last year, with Atwood-Knudson missing the cut after day one, and Flannery finishing 41st after a two-day total of 226. Senior Etaane Neumann will also provide a strong presence in the rotation, as she didn't advance past the district stage last year but will look to do so this year after gaining some valuable experience. And while Squalicum has a fair amount of experience at the top of its rotation, it also has a good deal of youth filling it out. Last year coach Chad Herman had several freshmen work their way on to the varsity lineup, and their experience playing behind such a seasoned group will only pay dividends in future years. Still, youth has a way of being unpredictable, and players like Flannery, Atwood-Knudsen and Neumann will help even out the good and bad days they have, hopefully allowing the Storm to compete against Bellingham for an NWC title.
