LYNDEN

LIONS

Coach: Scott Sahagian

Last year: The Lions finished fourth in the Northwest Conference standings, third amongst all 2A schools. ... Sent one golfer to state, while four advanced to the 2A district tournament.

Players to watch: Emily Ming (Sr.); Ashlyn Morgan (Sr.); Kelsey Walczak (Sr.); Camile Sharp (Sr.).

Outlook: The Lions are pretty much built for this year, and this year alone. Coach Scott Sahagian has a roster comprised of four seniors, and leading that group will be returner Emily Ming, who finished 12th at the Class 2A state championships last year with a two-round total of 181. "We're super excited for the two returners," said Sahagian of Ming and Ashlyn Morgan, in a phone interview. Morgan didn't advance to state after a rough round at districts, but she proved throughout last season to be one of the better golfers in the conference. "Ashlyn was able to jump right back in," Sahagian said. "Emily plays a lot of golf in the offseason, and that always helps her game. It's fun to watch those two." Kelsey Walczak and Camile Sharp are seniors, but had little to no golfing experience before turning out. Despite that working against them, Sahagian had lofty praise for the two. "Both have picked it up better than any beginning golfer in a long time," he said. "Both have great swings and great shots." Sahagian said he doesn't know how their lack of experience will play out when the two jump into tournament play, but his confidence in the two is high.
