Lynden Christian boys' golf capsule

Coach: Dana Hagen

Last year: The Lyncs finished third in the Northwest Conference standings last year behind Bellingham and Lynden. ... Lynden Christian sent four golfers to state last year, and the team finished second to Ilwaco in the overall-team standings.

Players to watch: Lincoln Olson (Jr.); Travis Roosma (Jr.).

Outlook: Lynden Christian lost three state golfers last year in Willy Scholten, Luke Olson and Weber Bartz, so coach Dana Hagen knew this year was going to be interesting. "We're going to have to be really patient," Hagen said in a phone interview. "We're really inexperienced at the tournament level." Returning from the Lyncs' second-place team at state last year will be junior Lincoln Olson, who placed 12th. Lincoln's role on the team is a changing one, Hagen said, because he will be asked to be more of a mentor to the incoming freshmen, something he hasn't had to do in his two previous years. "I've got three freshmen this year, and all three of them are really good players," Hagen said. Travis Roosma, also a junior, will be tasked with making up for some of what was lost from last year's club, and Hagen believes he will certainly provide Lincoln another strong golfer to go against. "He really improved last year," Hagen said. "He's going to be a real solid player for us." But after coming off a second-place finish at state last year, both Hagen and Olson said this team is building toward the future, a future Hagen is excited about.
