BLAINE

BORDERITES

Coach: Steve Barthlow

Last year: The Borderites finished in third place at the Class 1A state championships last year with a two-day total of 77 points. ... Blaine placed 10th in the Northwest Conference with a per-round average of 464.7.

Players to watch: Devan Boucher (Sr.); Charlie Baldwin (Jr.); Aaron Onyon (Jr.); Chad Reimer (Jr.).

Outlook: So begins life without Ryan Wallen, the All-Whatcom County boys' golfer of the year last year, but Blaine is well-equipped to handle his departure. Senior Devan Boucher, who placed eighth at the Class 1A state championships with a two-round total of 155, returns to lead the young group after posting a per-round average of 79 last year, good for sixth in the entire Northwest Conference. "He's swinging the clubs real well. Doing a nice job," Blaine coach Steve Barthlow said in a phone interview. "Just watching him on the range and watching him swing his clubs, he's improved quite a bit ... and I definitely think he'll be top 10 in the NWC." Barthlow said the numbers were down in terms of total golfers this year, but he has guys like Charlie Baldwin and Aaron Onyon, both juniors, that will help fill spots for the Borderites. "Hopefully these guys will be able to get their game and even be more successful," Barthlow said. Chad Reimer, also a junior, will add some depth to the bottom of Blaine's rotation with the experience he has gained over his first two years.
