Anacortes' girls' tennis team swept the four singles matches and defeated Ferndale 5-2 on Thursday, March 20, at Anacortes.

Cary Bannerman and Shelby Slaughter defeated their Seahawks opponents 6-2, 6-3 in one of the Golden Eagles' two wins.

"They are a legit first-line doubles team," Ferndale coach Ed Sweitzer said in a phone interview. "They're just so athletic and dominating."

Sophomores Meredith Boxx and Haley Schulz got a win for Ferndale in their first varsity match, coming from behind to take the 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 win.

"They just turned it around," Sweitzer said. "After the first set I said, 'You guys aren't playing that bad, you need to relax and hit it like you know how to hit it.'"

Ferndale's next match is at 3:45 p.m. Monday, March 24, at home against Blaine.
