Mariners fall short in seventh

Sehome's softball team made a seventh-inning rally, but couldn't get in the tying run as the Mariners fell to Anacortes 6-5 on Thursday, March 20, at Frank Geri Fields.

The Mariners put together a string of hits, scored three runs and had the tying run on third base and the winning run on second in the seventh inning.

"We came up with some clutch hits," Sehome coach Jim Emerson said in a phone interview. "We just came up one short."

Rebecca Miksovsky starred for the Mariners in her first varsity game, going 2 for 3 with two runs scored, two RBI and a double.

"She hit the ball good and was aggressive," Emerson said.

Mallory Kruzich took the loss for Sehome on the mound, but pitched well.

"Mallory did a good job of keeping us in the game," Emerson said. "Defensively, we played well. They put the ball in play a lot and the defense made the plays. Mallory came up with the big outs when we needed them."

Sehome faces Anacortes again on Saturday, March 22, at Anacortes.
