Bellingham's boys' soccer team had five different goal scorers in its 5-1 win over Ferndale on Thursday, March 20, at Bellingham.
"We finally saw the ball go in the back of the net," Bellingham coach Matt Zigulis said in a phone interview. "We played a similar game as our first game. We tried to get everyone into the attack. We stepped up to the challenge."
Bellingham tied its first game 0-0 with Oak Harbor on Tuesday.
Hunter Hadfield started the scoring off in the 12th minute. It took more than 30 minutes for the Red Raiders to connect again, when Nick Bippley scored in the 45th.
That's when Ferndale's Luis Morin answered with a header goal in the 55th minute.
"He rose above everyone and had a good header," Zigulis said. "Give him props."
Dane Thurston, Carlos Velasco and Noe Betancourt-Cruz scored three unanswered to finish the game.
"It was nice to spread the wealth," Zigulis said. "Lynden's defense worked hard and made it tough on us. Their defense never quit."
Bellingham plays Sehome on Saturday, March 22, at Civic Stadium. Ferndale faces Squalicum on Saturday at home.
