Squalicum Storm girls' tennis preview capsule

SQUALICUM

STORM

Coach: Joe O'Brien

Last year: Finished fourth in the Northwest Conference with a 5-3 record and went 8-4 overall.

Players to watch: Ali Anders (sr.), Lindsey Belsher (sr.), Tirsa Randall-Grutter (sr.) Kim Dorr (so), Rachel Dorr (so.), Sarah Byron (jr.)

Outlook: Between the amount of Storm varsity returners and improvement the team has made during both the offseason and preseason, coach Joe O'Brien believes Squalicum can be a very competitive group this spring. Three out of the four losses the Storm suffered last year were to either Bellingham or Sehome, and there's little reason to think Squalicum shouldn't compile another strong record. Senior Ali Anders has moved from doubles to Squalicum's No. 1 singles spot, and O'Brien raved about the improvements she's made. Fellow seniors Lindsey Belsher and Tirsa Randall-Grutter are two more talented singles players who provide strong leadership. Kim Dorr and Rachel Dorr are slated to play No. 1 doubles. They are both extremely athletic and form one of the top doubles duos in the Northwest Conference. Sarah Byron rounds out Squalicum's top four singles positions. "If they come together, and they have been, I think they could be a really solid team," O'Brien said in a phone interview.
