BELLINGHAM

RED RAIDERS

Coach: Steve Chronister

Last year: Finished second in the Northwest Conference with a 8-0 record and went 14-2 overall. ... Won a Class 2A Northwest District title. ... Had one singles entry at state, and Bella Hoyos placed third. ... Tied for seventh as a team at state.

Players to watch: Kira Vazorka (sr.), Kara Burns (sr.), Mariah Miller (jr.), Catie Welch (sr.), Tess Owen (sr.), Keri Brauner (sr.), Ellie Iwersen (fr.)

Outlook: While Red Raiders coach Steve Chronister admitted former standout Bella Hoyos is a one-of-a-kind player, he knows he has a group filled with leaders who have plenty of talent. "We got a lot of kids that have done this before," Chronister said. "They are really easy to coach and are tough, smart kids." Bellingham returns a number of players, and Chronister said Kira Vazorka, Kara Burns and Mariah Miller are each competing for the Red Raiders' No. 1 singles spot. Senior Catie Welch is a three-year letter winner who can play both singles and doubles, and Tess Owen, newcomer Ellie Iwersen and veteran Keri Brauner will each contribute to Bellingham's success this spring. "These are kids who've done this for a while, and they are responsible, smart and a hard-working bunch, and it rubs off on others that are new," Chronister said.
